While Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is still the most highly regarded retailer by suppliers, regional food chains have made significant strides in the eyes of their trading partners.

That is among the findings of Cannondale Associates Inc.'s 2004 PoweRanking® Survey, which reported major advances for Publix Super Markets Inc., Wegmans Food Markets Inc. and H.E.Butt Grocery Co.

Among manufacturers Procter & Gamble Co. again took "best of the best" honors, followed by Kraft Foods, General Mills Inc. and Nestle SA.
